Vivien Schweitzer is the author of A Mad Love: An Introduction to Opera, named one of the New Yorker's Best Books We Read in 2021. She was a classical music and opera critic for the New York Times between 2006-2016 and currently writes about music and culture for publications including The Economist and Classical Voice North America and for her Substack. She trained as a pianist at the Eastman School of Music, loves chamber music and collaborating with singers, and performs at venues including Bargemusic.
