The St. Louis Symphony co-commissioned Julia Wolfe’s Pretty, a work that has been described as “raucous and raw,” making the listener consider what the word “pretty” really means. On March 22-23, SLSO will have its chance to play the piece under music director Stéphane Denève. The program opens with Berlioz’s Overture to Beatrice and Benedict. On the second half, continuing the SLSO’s season-long exploration of the Beethoven piano concertos, is the Emperor, with soloist Tom Borrow.
