Chinese Instruments In Seattle Premiere

Coinciding with the Lunar New Year, Xian Zhang will conduct the Seattle Symphony in the city’s premiere of Qigang Chen’s Iris Dévoilée (Iris Unveiled). The work employs Peking and Western-style singers and traditional Chinese instruments, evoking Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow, and the “eternal feminine.” The Feb. 12-15 concludes with Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony.
