After a stint as managing editor of Chicago Magazine, Mike Greenberg returned to his native Texas and served for 28 years as a critic, columnist, and reporter for the daily San Antonio Express-News. His portfolio emphasized classical music, architecture, and urban planning but stretched to include the arts and culture generally, First Amendment issues, economic development, and odd topics such as sentence diagramming (of which he is in favor). He is the author of The Poetics of Cities (1995, The Ohio State University Press) and is working on a book about the evolving relationship between people and water in an urban setting.
