In normal summers, the Tippet Rise Art Center in Fishtail, Montana, hosts a laid back chamber music festival full of musical premieres and largescale outdoor sculpture exhibits on a working ranch beneath the spectacular Beartooth Mountains north of Yellowstone National Park. This summer the concerts are virtual, but commissions featuring prominent soloists have continued, and will be performed in a three-day celebration of premieres and special concerts.
Chase introduces The Haunted Orchard for flute and electronics, composed by Bora Yoon. The Korean-American composer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist specializes in creating soundscapes using digital devices, voice and found objects, as well as instruments from a variety of cultures and historical centuries. The Haunted Orchard lasts just over 12 minutes and will remain available online. To see them all, click here.
This year’s virtual three-day festival includes 5:30PM MDT live “backstage” gatherings via Zoom, giving artists the opportunity to discuss their performances, followed by the release of the films at 6PM MDT.
The last day of the festival, Sunday, April 18, will feature programs filmed in the Long Island City studio of sculptor Joel Shapiro.
