Gulf Coast: Hindemith’s homage to Von Weber

November 18, 2017

The music of Carl Maria von Weber has had a profound effect on German composers of subsequent generations. One fan was Paul Hindemith, who was originally introduced to Weber’s work in 1940 by the great choreographer Léonide Massine. Rather than writing the ballet Massine hoped for, Hindemith composed his Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber in 1943. The Florida Symphony performs the work Nov. 18-19 under the baton of Larry Rachleff in a program that also includes the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 (Jeffrey Multer, soloist) and Schubert’s Symphony No. 8, “Unfinished.”
