Phila.: ‘Sleepers Awake’ Opera Twists Sleeping Beauty Tale

The world premiere of Sleepers Awake, a new opera by Gregory Spears, will be presented by Philadelphia Opera. “In this opera, the chorus has the starring role.” Spears creates a dream-like rendering of the fairytale “Sleeping Beauty,” inspired by modernist writer Robert Walser. Corrado Rovaris conducts. (April 22-26)
