NYC: World premiere by Bent Sørensen
November 30, 2017
The first of two New York Philharmonic commissions this season will receive its world premiere Nov. 30-Dec. 2 – Bent Sørensen’s Evening Land. The Danish composer, born in 1958, wrote that the new piece contains an energetic echo of New York after beginning in a soft landscape very far away. His music has been described as evoking memories or unconscious recollections with all the attendant shadow plays, displacements and obscurities. The concert will be conducted by Christoph von Dohnányi, a longtime champion of new music. Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27, with Emanuel Ax, complete the program.
