Arrive early, stay late. Chamber Music Cincinnati begins its 90th anniversary season with Stewart Goodyear’s signature total immersion experience – all 32 Beethoven piano sonatas in three sittings starting at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 8 a.m. He has performed this feat in Toronto, Princton, Dallas , and Davis, Calif. and released them on a Marquis Classics 10-CD set that is now available – all in anticipation of Beethoven’s 250th in 2020. In an interview with Andrew Patner on WFMT, the pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim said that the piano sonatas, not the symphonies, served as the most accurate biography of Beethoven. The matinee performance offers the Moonlight, Pastoral, Tempest, Waldstein and Appassionata sonatas in a single stretch.
