July 14, 2021: For Chicago’s outdoor Grant Park Music Festival, Carlos Kalmar opens with a work by English composer Anna Clyne, who was once a composer-in-residence under Riccardo Muti at the Chicago Symphony, and who remains popular in this city. Her 2019 composition  Sound and Fury – draws inspiration from Shakespeares’ famous soliloquy for Macbeth as well as Haydn’s 60th Symphony, is subtitled “Il Distratto” (The Distracted).  “My intention with Sound and Fury is to take the listener on a journey that is both invigorating – with ferocious string gestures that are flung around the orchestra – and reflective – with haunting melodies that emerge and recede.”
