Williams creates something for a friend>>

July 24:A highlight of this shortened season at the Tanglewood Music Festival ln Lenox, Mass., the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is the world premiere of John Williams’ Violin Concerto No. 2 with soloist Anne Sophie Mutter and Williams as conductor. The next day, composer Thomas Adès leads the two-day 2021 Festival of Contemporary Music, which is to include the American premiere of Andrew Haig’s Replacing and the world premiere of Xinyang Wang’s Between the Resonating Abysses. Xinyang takes inspiration from traditional Chinese arts as well as Western concert music.

Also not to miss: Aug. 14, Russian-born British composer Elena Langer’s Suite from her opera Figaro Gets a Divorce,  which was commissioned by the Welsh National Opera as a sequel to The Barber of Seville and The Marriage of Figaro premiered in libretto of Figaro Gets a Divorce was written by David Pountney, and the opera was premiered in Cardiff in February 2016. Boston Symphony assistant conductor Anna Rakitina will take the baton.
