Pittsburgh: Violinist Ray Chen begins round of orchestra debuts
Violinist Ray Chen will perform Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in his Pittsburgh Symphony debut Oct. 13 and 15. This young violinist was born in Taiwan and raised in Australia, and has won both the Queen Elisabeth and the Menuhin competitions. Krzysztof Urbański will be at the podium for the program, which also includes Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and the magnificent Fifth Symphony of Dmitri Shostakovich.
In 2017, Chen signed to Decca Classics in a major new recording deal and multimedia partnership. Later this fall Chen will perform Prokofiev’s Second Violin Concerto with the Atlanta Symphony, Shostakovich First with the Sydney Symphony and the Bruch with Zürich Tonalle.
