Pittsburgh: New James MacMillan work honors Manfred Honeck’s 10th season
The world premiere of James MacMillan’s Larghetto for Orchestra, originally for a cappella choir, will open the Pittsburgh Symphony’s Oct. 27-29 program. The piece is one of three commissions to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Manfred Honeck as music director. Cellist Alisa Weilerstein will be on hand to play Schumann’s Cello Concerto, and the program closes with Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony, Honeck conducting. (James MacMillan photo by Philip Gatward)
