Boston: Charles Dutoit leads Berlioz’s Damnation of Faust
Charles Dutoit leads the Boston Symphony in Berlioz’s Goethe-inspired oratorio, The Damnation of Faust. Susan Graham sings Marguerite, Paul Groves is Faust, David Kravitz portrays Brander, and bass-baritone John Relyea takes on the role of Mephistopheles, envoy for Satan. The Damnation of Faust has held a special place in the BSO’s repertoire since Koussevitzky led the orchestra’s first complete performances in 1934, and it was recorded by the orchestra under both Charles Munch and Seiji Ozawa.
